November 2018
With great excitement, a lot of nerves and it has to be said, a little sigh of relief, "The Cookbook Committee" was very pleased to release "The Seasonal Cook" on Sunday 4th November.
It was a wonderful day when our school's cookbook took pride of place in some of Alexandra's most beautiful homes as part of the St Gerard's House Tour.
We are very grateful both to the people who opened their homes to share with us all, and to all those people who attended the tour and whose warmth, gratitude and enjoyment made the whole day such a success!
We were delighted to see that almost half of the people on the tour purchased a copy of the book and we look forward to hearing of the recipes being shared and enjoyed.
Our next definite sales event will be the Cromwell Festive Fete on Sunday 25th November but details of how to get a copy of the book right now can be found just here: Order Online

A vibrant, beautifully styled new cookbook is about to hit the shelves in Central Otago...and it has been entirely created by a bunch of working mums!

A fundraising collaboration between a group of mothers including a former chef, a nurse, an electrician, a hairdresser, a teacher, along with a professional photographer and a graphic designer has resulted in a stunning showcase of Central Otago throughout the seasons interleaved with over a hundred recipes from local families.

The original concept for the book as a fundraiser for St Gerard’s School was launched late in 2016 and two years, five photo shoots, hundreds of editing hours and phone calls later “The Cookbook Committee” is pleased to be putting their aprons aside for a few days to celebrate the launch of The Seasonal Cook.

The Seasonal Cook may have started as a fundraising project but it quickly became apparent to the people involved in the project that they had the opportunity to create so much more than a school cookbook. The photography captures not just the delicious food, but also celebrates the Central Otago environment and how it influences what we eat.

The book’s creation was sponsored by many local businesses and many local families, especially from the St Gerard’s school community, have contributed recipes and created many dishes for the photography shoots.
Recipes come from a variety of cultures and range from healthy gluten and dairy free options through to nostalgic baking and by dividing the book into seasonal sections it is easy to choose something to suit any time of the year.
The stunning imagery comes courtesy of Alyssa Drake of dearlissy Photography with Holly Saunders of Saunders Hairdressing taking the role of lead stylist. The project as a whole came together when talented graphic designer Sarah Phillip of SP Design came on board earlier this year to bring the book to publication.
The quality of the photography and the range of recipes combines to create a beautiful keepsake that celebrates the warmth and values of the local community and is also a high quality, useful cookbook.

The Seasonal Cook is available to order online from www.theseasonalcook.net or
